Spoiler Season

Hey there MTG Fans! So we have our next official spoiler out now in addition to the previous 3, which are:

  • Temple of Enlightenment - the W/U Scryland
  • Temple of Malice - the B/R Scryland
  • Temple of Plenty - the G/W Scryland
Now what we don't know yet, is whether or not these will be the only Scrylands in this set. I personally am sad that we don't have the G/B one right off the bat, but we will see what the future holds.
UPDATE: There is speculation that this will be like ISD and we will get a 5-3-2 release on the Scry Lands, which makes me sad, but apparently WOTC is more keen to use those Rare slots for other cards.

We have had a big development since Christmas though! A New Planeswalker!!

I personally think this card could be broken pretty easily. All you need is the mana to keep open to counter a kill spell, and a Prophet of Kruphix on the table and you have everything you need to keep this baby ramping for you. It does fall prey if your opponent has a very heavy creature deck, with the 2 starting CMC, which is why I see this being in a lot of turbo fog decks, especially the Maze's End turbo fog decks. We will see more what she is capable of as more of the set spoils.
Here are a couple of other links for you to check out regarding this.

So now we have Springleaf Drum, a reprint from Lorwyn

Springleaf Drum, Magic, Lorwyn

Personally, I think this is a fun card. Lots people saying that it will never see Standard Constructed. I don't tend to disagree with them. It's a decent fixer, and allows any creature to become a mana dork. I can see how it wouldn't be ideal for most decks because you'd rather actually have the mana dork than this, but not bad as a limited card when your fixing options aren't there. It would be way better to have this be a 3 CMC mythic that loses the tap function and keeps the text.

More Orzhov Slow Death

Recent Posts

So this deck I have been spending lots of time on, trying it out against various other matchups, and most of the time it does very well. Here and there we have a really bad matchup, but overall it performs pretty well. The one thing I need to see out of it is more Life Gain (LG) consistently. Which can come through the whip, but I am thinking about adding things like Fiendslayer Paladin to get more consistency with it.

Here are some videos for you to check out!

And finally, here's the wrap up Deck Tech for you guys as to what I am going to be moving to with the deck

FNM for the week

Recent Posts

So we at MTG The Journey played FNM this last week and it was a blast as always! David played in the free event going 1-4, and got a promo Sin Collector

for the evening. He ran a haste-ily thrown together RDW deck, and lost to a bunch of aggro decks.

Chuck played an Orzhov Debt to the Deathless

deck, but unfortunately without the Debt to the Deathless

, we didn't have any, so we expected to just pick some up at the LGS when we arrived. But alas, they didn't have any either. Fortunately for us, someone there had them for trade, but unfortunately, not in time to get them in the deck before the tournament started. Chuck went 1-1-3 and won against a mono-white enchantment deck, had a draw against mono-blue devotion, lost to mono-white battalion, mono-black devotion, and W/B stompy devotion. However, we learned a lot about the deck and how it functions this week, and will have some videos up soon of the deck and how it plays.

We have been doing some Christmas shopping and picked up a couple Holiday Gift boxes for our MTG playing friends, and hope you are doing the same! Also, don't forget to check out our sponsor MTG Madness and check out their deals for the month of December!

As always, stay tuned for future spoilers and decklists! Keep the brewing strong!

MTG Madness GP Vienna Coverage

Here are some videos of MTG Madness' Team that is playing GP Vienna, check it out!

Spoiler Season has officially begun!!

So today on MTG salvation we have our first glimpse of spoilers for BNG, or Born of the Gods. Three of the Allied Scry Lands

  • Temple of Enlightenment - the W/U Scryland
  • Temple of Malice - the B/R Scryland
  • Temple of Plenty - the G/W Scryland
Now what we don't know yet, is if these are actually confirmed, or whether or not these will be the only Scrylands in this set. I personally am sad that we don't have the G/B one right off the bat, but we will see what the future holds. Happy Thanksgiving!! And more stuff for you!!

Recent Posts

Happy Thanksgiving MTG Players, we apologize for being absent for a bit. We have had tons going on here at MTG The Journey, and it's just been crazy.
We did get to play this last week at FNM, and our Mono-Black Devotion went 3-2 this week, losing to a Mono-Red speed deck, and an Esper Control deck. So, we are going to be trying some new decks here in the coming weeks, the Golgari Dredge, Nighthowler deck will be one we want to start tweaking, as we think Golgari has tons of potential moving forward in this block, and we also want to play Orzhov, as we see tons of potential in those decks as well. We are in the midst of brewing a lot of decks right now, but here is another one we have brewed, and it's got some great looks.

Orzhov's Undying Devotion

Creatures: ( )

  •  3x Desecration Demon
  • 2x Erebos, God of the Dead
  • 3x Gray Merchant of Asphodel
  • 4x High Priest of Penance
  • 3x Nightveil Specter
  • 2x Obzedat, Ghost Council
Enchantment: (9)

  • 3x Ethereal Armor
  • 3x Gift of Immortality
  • 3x Underworld Connections
Instant: (8)

  • 3x Hero's Downfall
  • 2x Orzhov Charm
  • 3x Pharika's Cure
Sorcery: (4)
  •  4x Thoughtseize
Planeswalker: (1)
  • 1x Elspeth, Sun's Champion
 Land: (22)
  • 4x Godless Shrine
  • 3x Mutavault
  • 3x Orzhov Guildgate
  • 1x Plains
  • 7x Swamp
  • 4x Temple of Silence

Still working on a solid side-board right now, and will be play testing this a ton moving forward, so expect it to change moving forward. We would love your input though on the sideboard, or versions of this that you might run.

The base premise of the play is to build up enchantments for Ethereal Armor, and to drop a Gift of Immortality on a High Priest of Penance, Gray Merchant of Asphodel, or Nightveil Specter to keep doing the most damage possible. Meanwhile, your Obzedat and Desecration Demon can wreak havoc with Erebos holding down the house.

Let us know what you think! And don't forget to check out MTG Madness for your Christmas Gift needs this Holiday Season!! That 20% off could come in very handy!!

This week we are going to try and work Underworld Connections
into this deck, we feel like the merit of having it there is going to really help us out a lot!
Next up, we have the Mid-Range Junk deck, that went 2-2-1 this week, and one of the wins we gave to a mono-blue control, which theoretically was a draw.
The other draw was to a Spellheart Chimera deck. I won the first game, and the second game it went to time and I misplayed and didn't discard to the troll, and the judge misheard me say "is it good?" when I played the Whip and thought I said "go ahead", so that really screwed me too, Pretty much lost an entire turn on turn 2.
The one match it actually lost went 2-1, I lost the first game due to it going 25 minutes, and I conceded to start over. I won the 2'nd match, and then he came back in and won the third at almost time.
I did win my mirror match, against a Golgari deck. I won that 2-1, and I also went 2-1 against a Boros aggro deck, which theoretically should have killed me. But hey, that's the game right.
I will be re-tooling this deck this week, and should have a new decklist up for you by mid-week or so! This weekend I will be playing in Springfield, IL. And then I won't be at FNM, or here, for 2 weeks, as I have my National Guard AT starting on Nov 1st and going through the 16th.
As always, thanks for reading and keep brewing those decks!!

G/U/R Decklist

Recent Posts

So I played this deck the other day designed by Javier Perez in a match on Cockatrice, and it performed so well that I wanted to share it with you.

   It's a G/U/R deck.

Creatures: (19)
  • 4x Elvish Mystic
  • 4x Manaweft Sliver
  • 4x Sylvan Caryatid
  • 4x Voyaging Satyr
  • 3x Worldspine Wurm
Instant: (4)
  • 4x Turn/Burn
Sorcery: (8)
  • 4x Catch/Release
  • 4x Blast of Genius
Land: (24)
  • 2x Breeding Pool
  • 7x Forest
  • 4x Steam Vents
  • 2x Stomping Ground
  • 1x Temple Garden
  • 4x Temple of Abandon
  • 4x Temple of Mystery
Planeswalker: (5)
  • 4x Garruk, Caller of Beasts
  • 1xJace, Architect of Thought

So this deck looks funny when you just look at it right? Well he basically just ramps into Blast of Genius and either throws Worldspine on the field with the Blast, or he gets a Garruk out there and just -3's Garruk with a Worldspine, it worked. He also discarded Catch/Release to hit me for 9 damage. It just wins quick once it gets going. Check it out, try it out, let us know how it works for you!
He is a friend of ours on our Facebook page, and we will be play testing some more decks of ours against this and recording them as well to let you see how this deck plays!
As always, thanks for reading and we look forward to seeing you next time!
